A new international airport in Egypt
Egypt, Business, 5/18/1999
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak agreed on establishing an international airport in 6th of October City, west of the capital, Cairo, like Charles de Gaulle Airport in France. The new airport is to serve Giza, Alexandria and Upper Egypt cities.
The executive manager of the Dreamland project, Amr Asal, said the government will float up the airport in the private sector by August on the B.O.T. (build-operate-transfer) system, expecting that the project will get great interest from investors and businessmen, especially Arabs and Egyptians.
He said the airport will be 28 kilometers away from pyramids, which will save time and effort, as the distance between the Cairo airport and the pyramids takes nearly two hours to cover. He added that the project will be established in three stages, the first ending by the end of 2002, the second by 2004, and the third is to be finished in the year 2005.
Asad said, "The project was studied by the government for a period in association with the private sector, confirming that the location of the new airport is very important for being close to the 100 factories located in 6th of October City."
