On Jordanian detainees
Jordan, Politics, 5/18/1999
The chairman of the freedoms committee at the Jordanian parliament, Muhammad al-Azeydah, has asserted that he did not receive any signal from the defense committee for the detainees in Syria or the Syrian embassy in Amman, or from the Jordanian Ministry of the Interior which indicated "Syria's retreat towards releasing the Jordanian detainees, held there."
In a statement to the Jordanian paper al-Arab al-Youm al-Azeydah added that all he knows about is "clear and positive remarks from the side of the Syrian authorities to its Jordanian counterpart concerning the release of the Jordanian detainees in the Israeli jails."
Two days ago, the Jordanian daily al-Masa'eyeh reported about what it called the "retreat of the Syrian government from releasing the Jordanian detainees held in Syria."
