El-Shazli to people's assembly: We will not reduce number of embassies
Egypt, Local, 5/17/1999

Egyptian Minister of State for People's Assembly and Consultative Council Affairs Kamal El-Shazli said yesterday before the people's assembly, "We will not reduce the number of our embassies abroad, because it is not in the interest of Egypt, which seeks to establish distinguished relations with all countries of the world."

Yomna Serag El-Deen the representative of the El-Wafd Party, has proposed a decrease in the number of Egyptian embassies abroad so as to reduce expenditures.

Concerning the agreement on Egyptian embassies abroad and the call of Serag El-Deen to close some of the embassies to reduce expenses, El-Shazli said that Egypt has good relations with all countries all over the world, and the policies adopted by President Mubarak have great respect that concentrates on not intervening in the internal affairs of any other country, so reducing the Egyptian diplomatic representations abroad is not to the benefit of Egypt at all.
