Egypt for good relations with Iran
Egypt-Iran, Politics, 5/17/1999

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Sunday said in statements during a press conference in Asyut that his country desires to "maintain good relations with Iran."

The Egyptian President indicated that there are contacts with Iran in this respect.

He said, "I have no objection to stretch my hand to any country provided that none will interfere in the other's internal affairs." He said that Egypt does not need any other country's mediation in relations with Iran, but added that there are problems to be overcome regarding the naming of a Tehran street after the assassin of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. "This is hurting Egyptians' feelings," he said.

He continued that since he had resumed power he extended his hand to all states to build relations that are based on respect and non-intervention in the internal affairs of other countries.
