Syrian defense minister meets with US cadets
Syria-USA, Politics, 5/17/1999
Syrian Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Mustafa Tlass on Sunday received in Damascus members of a delegation from the American National Military Academy, currently visiting Syria. The US delegation is led by Rober Safer.
During the meeting, which was attended by the US ambassador in Damascus, Tlass said that Syria's choice to achieve a just and comprehensive peace provides for the right of each party to attain its own security and stability in line with the provisions of international legitimacy, the Madrid conference terms of references and the "land-for-peace" formula.
Tlass added that, "Syria is against any act of terrorism that encroaches upon people's security," but he said that Syria "at the same time makes a distinction between terrorism and the need for recognizing legitimate national rights which are compatible with legitimacy and the will of the international community which seeks putting an end to occupation and injustice and supporting people's rights to self-determination and independence."
