Iranian president confers with Lebanese figures

Iranian President Muhammad Khatami met on Saturday at the headquarters of the Iranian embassy in Damascus with several Lebanese figures. In successive and separate meetings, President Khatami met with Sheikh Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah, the secretary general of the Hizbullah Party Sheikh Hassan Nasrullah, the chairman of the Lebanese Socialist Progressive Party Walid Jumblatt and the deputy chairman of the Amal movement Ayoub Hamid.
Iranian sources said that talks during the meetings dealt with the situation in Lebanon and means of backing the Lebanese resistance.
