Barak leads Netanyahu in poll
Israel, Politics, 5/15/1999
The latest polls in Israel showed a lead for Labor Party candidate Ehud Barak over his main competitor, current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the candidate of the Likud party.
The polls which range in giving Barak a lead of 4 to 11 points referred to the possibility of Barak wining over Netanyahu in the first round of these elections with no need to resort to a runoff.
Talks are now about the probability of the withdrawal of the Palestinian candidate in the elections, Azmi Bishara, from competing.
On the prime minister's post in Israel Likud Party and the opposition Labor Party brought their followers outside to vote. Through air transportation, 10,000 voters arrived today who were outside Israel.
Barak still lead Netanyahu today, and it is probable that the first round would decide the issue, while Netanyahu hopes the battle does not end in the first round of voting, expecting a second round that could enhance his chances for success.
