Foundation stone in place for international airport in Marsa Alam
Egypt, Business, 5/14/1999

The foundation stone for the international airport at Marsa Alam, the first airport to be implemented in Egypt on the B.O.T (build-operate-transfer) system which is run by the Kuwaiti group El-Khorafi, was laid.

The party was attended by governor Saad Abu Rida; Faisel Abd El-Razek El-Khaled, Kuwait's ambassador in Cairo; General Abd El-Fattah Cato, head of the Civil Aviation Organization; and Adel Radi, head of the Organization for Tourism Development, the owner of the lands on which the project is established.

El-Khorafi will hold the right to run and exploit the project for 40 years in the name of the Imac Marsa Alam company affiliated to El-Khorafi group, which specializes in running airports, in cooperation with two companies from the Netherlands and England.

The airport will be opened in the year 2001, will receive 4 million passengers annually and is planned for receiving large airplanes to serve tourism in the Red Sea area.
