AL condemns US-British air strike on Iraq
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 5/14/1999
Following the killing of some 12 Iraqis in an air raid on an Iraqi residential area, the Arab League has strongly condemned the US military strikes on the southern and northern parts of Iraq.
In press statements in Cairo on Thursday, AL Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid expressed the AL's categorical opposition to the US military strikes against Iraq, "because they are being made outside the UN security council's resolution and have no legal grounds."
The AL chief called the termination of the no-fly zones in the northern and southern parts of Iraq, saying these no fly zones are illegal measures taken by the US and Britain.
