Syria starts water pumping to Jordan

The Syrian authorities on Thursday started pumping of potable water to Jordan, in implementation with the agreement signed between the two sides in the meeting of the joint committee for water which was held in Damascus on May 2.
Sources at the Syrian Irrigation Ministry said that in accordance with the agreement and at the directives of President Hafez al-Assad, some 750 liters per second of drinking water will be transported from Daraa dam to Jordan to meet Jordanian demands.
Earlier the two sides agreed that Syria is to provide Jordan with some 8 million cubic meters of water this summer, MENA reported.
