Palestine-Egypt, Economics, 5/14/1999

The telecommunications department at the Palestinian government said on Thursday in Gaza that it gave on Wednesday the instructions to use the "special international code" for Palestine in telecommunications between Egypt and the Palestinian areas.

A source in the Palestinian telecommunications department said the official responsible for telecommunications in the Palestinian government, Imad al-Falouji, and Egyptian Minister of Transport and Communications Suleiman Metwali gave their instructions on Wednesday in Cairo to start use of the international code, which is (970).

Egypt is the first country which has officially announced the use of the international code with the Palestinians since the foundation of the telecommunications general federation at the end of 1998.
