Turabi's wife calls for closing the Dutch embassy

Wessal El-Mahdi, the wife of leader of the ruling Sudanese National Congress Hassan Turabi, called for closing the Dutch embassy in Khartoum, expulsion of the embassy's charge d'affairs due to practices contradicting Islam.

Mrs. El-Mahdi said that embassy is committing actions that contradict with Islamic traditions and the ethics of Sudan, and to launch a campaign against Islam in Sudan, referring to a birth control center sponsored by the Dutch embassy.

Mrs. Wessal El-Mahdi, the sister of former Sudanese Prime Minister and opposition Ummah Party leader El-Sadek El-Mahdi, chairs the International Moslem Women's Organization which was established three years ago in Khartoum.
