Algeria positive on Arab Maghreb Union
Maghreb, Politics, 5/13/1999

The follow-up committee of the Arab Maghreb Union is to hold its meeting in the Algerian capital on May 17 - 18 to discuss the activation of the Union's different organizations under the chairmanship of Algerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs El-Hassan Mossawi.

The committee will discuss means of settling the current problems between Morocco and Algeria due to several political issues, such as the Moroccan Sahara.

Algerian sources in Cairo told ArabicNews.com today that calling for these meetings reflects Algeria's desire to activate this onion and its organization.

The Arab Maghreb Union summit has been delayed twice due to disputes between Algeria and Morocco, and because Libya refused to assume the role of chairman in protest over what it saw as a negligence among the union's countries in support to lift the international sanctions imposed on Tripoli due to Lockerbie issue.
