Conditions of the Israeli Arabs
Israel, Politics, 5/13/1999
The French daily Le Figaro published a report on Wednesday in which it highlighted the difficult conditions of Palestinian Israelis, as a policy of discrimination pursued by the Israeli occupation forces against them.
In its report, the paper said that the Palestinian Israelis do not pin great hopes on the results of the Israeli elections. Their demands are limited to constructing roads and sewage and improving the conditions of schools, especially as they see the difference in the treatment they receive in regard to the budget allotted between the Palestinian cities and the nearby Israeli settlements.
The paper said, "These bad conditions from which the Palestinian Israelis suffer also include the issue of job opportunities," saying that the average unemployment rate is 12 % among Palestinian Israelis.
In a statement to the paper, the advisor to the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, Ahmad Tibi, said unemployment is especially spread among young Palestinian Israelis men who hold higher scientific degrees. He said this is so because of a policy of discrimination practised by the Israeli government's administrations and public sector companies, Monte Carlo radio reported.
