Libyan - Saudi relations strengthen with new ambassadors

King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz has received a message from Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gaddafi pertaining to developments in the Lockerbie issue and certain common Arab matters, as well as Libya's desire to raise the level of diplomatic representation with several Arab and non-Arab states following the success of the mediation made by Saudi Arabia and South Africa in containing the isolation Libya underwent in the past years as it was accused of being involved in the Lockerbie incident.

The message was delivered by the delegate of the Libyan leader, Lt. Gen. Mustafa al-Kharoubi, who started on Wednesday a visit to Saudi Arabia and met with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz and handed him a message from Gaddafi.

Al-Kharoubi's talks with Crown Prince Abdullah dealt with dealt with the question of Lockerbie as well as comprehensive talks due to be held by the crown prince in Libya within the framework of his Arab and African tour due to start as of May 20.

Meanwhile, the charge de affairs at the Libyan embassy in Saudi Arabia, Abdul Qader Bu Hmeira, said in Jeddah on Wednesday that Libya has recently appointed Muhammad al-Qashat as its ambassador in Saudi Arabia. He is due to arrive in Jeddah within the next week.

Earlier Saudi Arabia had appointed Bader Bakhash as its ambassador in Tripoli, and he has already started his term of office.
