Prince Nayef: Border demarcation to be completed shortly with Yemen
Saudi Arabia-Regional, Politics, 5/13/1999

Saudi Minister of the Interior Prince Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz has asserted that there is no link between his meeting last week with the secretary general of the Iranian National Security Council, Hassan Rouhani, and the summit meeting held by leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states in Jeddah on Monday.

On Tuesday night, Prince Nayef supervised the celebration held by the faculty of Sharia and Islamic studies at Um al-Qura university in Mecca. He said in an open dialogue with the university's teaching staff that the stand of the GCC and that of Saudi Arabia over the United Arab Emirates - Iranian disputes over three Gulf islands are clear.

Replying to a question about Saudi-Yemeni talks concerning the border issue, Prince Nayef said these talks are proceeding in accordance with the al-Taif agreement. He indicated that border demarcation operation between the two countries will be completed shortly especially concerning "determining the marks" according to the Taif treaty.

The Saudi minister of the Interior said he considered the "enforcement of the Arab-anti terrorism pact as a great achievement," hoping that all Arab states will take part in it.

He added, "Muslims in general and the Arabs in particular refuse terrorism and the attempts made to attatch it to Arabs and Muslims." He continued that those who "try to describe the Palestinians as terrorists are mistaken, because the Muslim is defending his religion and homeland, and this is not terrorism."
