Yemeni foreign minister heads to Kuwait
Yemen-Kuwait, Politics, 5/12/1999
Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdul Qader Bajmal is to head on Saturday to Kuwait where he will fulfill an official invitation from his Kuwaiti counterpart Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah in the framework of normalizing relations between the two states.
Bajamal said, "I'll visit Kuwait on May 15, during which reopening of the Yemeni embassy in Kuwait will take place," adding that his visit forms a first step to restoring bilateral relations to their former position.
He added that he will direct an official invitation to his Kuwaiti counterpart to visit Yemen.
Yemeni - Kuwaiti relations were completely ruptured after Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and Yemen's support for Iraq. The embassies in the two states were closed, but relations improved when Yemen urged the Arab leaders to convene an Arab summit to discuss their positions on Middle East and Kuwaiti - Iraqi relations.
