A minimized African summit in Libya to discuss peace in Great Lakes
Libya-Africa, Politics, 5/10/1999
A minimized African summit held yesterday in Tripoli focused on the implementation of the executive steps of the peace agreement that was endorsed in the Libyan city of Syrte to end the struggle in Africa's Great Lakes region, especially with Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Libyan leader Colonel Moammar Gaddafi, Central African Republic President Ange Patasse, Democratic Republic of the Congo President Laurent Kabila, former Algerian President Ahmed Ben Bella, and former Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere took part in the summit.
The participants in the summit confirmed that UN welcomed the peace agreement, considering it an achievement for peace interests and international security.
On the hand, the Libyan press sources said it is expected that Libya could witness other meetings comprising other African states' representatives to pursue efforts aimed at setting problems that have existed since the colonial era of the African continent.
