Islamic Symposium Adopts International Inter-Culture Dialogue Charter

The Islamic symposium on dialogue among civilizations, a three-day gathering of elite Muslim thinkers from 35 countries, organized by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), called for the preparation of an international charter for dialogue among cultures in the coming century.

A statement released on Sunday by the OCI secretariat-general said the symposium, called for setting a strategy for dialogue among cultures to be adopted by the United Nations.

The symposium, which was held on May 3-5, recommended a series of steps and procedures for the dialogue.

It also refuted all distorted images of Islam and blamed materialistic thinking for the temporary crisis in the world on both the local and international levels.

Major Islamic thinkers from 35 countries around the world took part in the symposium which was inaugurated with speeches by Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi and OIC secretary general, Azzedin Laraki.
