Nearly Half of New French Citizens Come from North Africa

Around 45 % of people who obtained the French citizenship in 1997 are from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, says a study by the French center for the study and observation of living conditions (CREDOC).
The study, which was published Monday by French "Le Parisien" daily says the Europeans are the third last foreign community which obtained the French nationality (15 %), after the Asians 25%) and the Africans.
In ten years, the number of foreigners who become French nationals has doubled, from 30,000 foreigners in end 80's to 60,485 in 1997. (MAP)SH
