A 15-day grace period to clear the Israeli representative office in Doha
Qatar, Politics, 5/10/1999
A court in Qatar gave the Israeli trade representative office in Doha on Sunday a 15-day grace period to move to another new building and hand over the current one to its owner, who had earlier filed a request to clear his building of the Israelis.
The court learned that the owner of the villa rented it to a third party, and he did not know then that this third party would rent it to the Israelis. The judge ruled for evacuating the villa on the grounds that the rental contract was not correct because its owner did not know nor agree to rent his villa to the Israelis.
However, the Israeli representative office finds it difficul to find a headquarters. Earlier it used to work in the Sheraton hotel.
Anti-Israeli sentiments are prevailing in Qatar due to sympathy with the Palestinians in their struggle with Israel.
Qatar has not established diplomatic relations with Israel, but it established trade relations with it since 1995 following the signing of the Oslo agreement.
