French University in Cairo opens in 2001

It was decided to make a time line for establishing the French University in Cairo, as studies will start by the beginning of 2001 according to what was agreed upon between Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and French President Jacques Chirac.
Previous statements indicated that the studies would start one year earlier. This came during the symposium of the French education organization that was organized yesterday evening on the margin of the France Expo '99 exhibition.
Ali El-Henawi, head of the Egyptian - French businessmen association said the university will be established according to a gradual program through establishing a successive study stages as each one must have an integral system on the most modern scientific, technical and educational systems, adding that the limit for the number of students expected to participate in all education years will not exceed 3,500.
What will be offered by the university during the first stage includes engineering specializations like electronics, computers, communications, establishments and food industries, as well as medical sciences, sciences of living languages, technology of scientific translations, tourism and its sciences, fine and architectural arts, administrative, legal and commercial studies.
