Barak adheres to settlement in the al-Ghour
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 5/7/1999

Chairman of the Israeli Labor Party Ehud Barak has asserted his commitment to perpetuating the Israeli military, security and settlement presence in the Jordanian al-Ghour region.

During a tour of the Israeli army position in al-Ghour, Barak added that borders with Jordan will form the Israeli security line in the framework of a permanent settlement with the Palestinian government.

Barak, moreover, expressed his rejection of any position for "foreign troops" to the west of the Jordan River.

For their part, heads of the Israeli settlements in the Jordanian al-Ghour called upon Barak to assert the annexation of this area and to keep it within the Israeli lines in the framework what they called "permanent settlement with the Palestinian Authority."
