Bahraini dailies urge Qatar to withdraw border dispute from International court
Bahrain-Qatar, Politics, 5/7/1999

In their Wednesday commentaries, the Bahraini dailies highlighted the issue of the border disputes between Bahrain and Qatar. The dailies said that the "amicable solution" need not involve the International Court of Justice.

The commentaries of the Bahraini dailies came in reaction to what had been said by Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem Bin Jaber al-Thani in a televised meeting that his country is serious about "calming down the atmosphere with Bahrain."

In response to the statements of the Qatari FM, the Bahraini daily al-Ayam said the heart of the matter is that submitting the border issue to the International Court of Justice was "taken unilaterally" at Qatar's request.

The Bahraini daily added that "the sincere calls require giving up double-standard of solution and concentration on giving the solution credibility." The Bahraini daily added that, "Bahrain is confident in the fairness of its call and is committed to all its rights."
