Moroccan interior minister in Brussels

Moroccan minister of the interior, Driss Basri, is paying this May 5-7 a working visit to Brussels at the invitation of Belgian peer Luc Van den Bossche, who is also deputy premier.

The two sides will discuss issues of common concern and will examine means of promoting cooperation in the fields falling under the two interior ministries prerogatives.

Moroccan-Belgian cooperation was thoroughly examined in Rabat during the visit Belgian prime minister, Jean-Luc Dehaene, paid to Morocco last April 14-15.

The visit was marked by the signing of an agreement on the promotion and protection of investments in both countries, which are bound by several economic, cultural and Juridical accords.According to the latest available figures, the Moroccan community settled in Belgium is 200,000 strong and its remittances amounted in 1998 to 1.286 billion dirhams ($ 132.5 million).
