Owner of Al-Shifaa factory: lifting of embargo a recognition of US mistake
Sudan, Politics, 5/6/1999

Owner of al-Shifaa factory, Salah Idris, has commended the decision taken by the US to lift the embargo imposed on his bank account in the US. He added that the decision is a recognition by the US administration of its mistake in striking the al-Shifaa factory on August 20, 1998.

In statements to the local media on Wednesday in Khartoum, Idris added that he will continue his efforts before the US court to obtain due compensation.

Idris denied that he had reduced his investments in Sudan. He said he seeks to increase investments in every country where he find the proper atmosphere for investment.

However, officials at the Sudanese Foreign Ministry considered the abrogation of the decision to freeze assets of the owner of al-Shifaa factory as a "new indication on the US administration revision of its decisions."

The Sudanese officials expected that this recent act will improve US-Sudanese relations.
