Kuwaiti Nation's Council to be dissolved for elections following controversy
Kuwait, Politics, 5/5/1999
Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jabir Ahmed al-Sabah issued a decree to dissolve the Nation's Council. The Kuwaiti news agency said yesterday evening that the decree includes calling on voters to elect a new council on July 3.
The members of Nation's Council intended to vote on withdrawing confidence from Minister of Justice and Endowments Ahmed Khaled al-Taieb on Tuesday for his responsibility in printing and distributing 120,000 copies of the holy Quran that included printing faults, described by some members as abusing to Islam.
The Kuwaiti emir has previously dissolved the Nation's Council twice, the first time in 1976 and the second in 1986 after criticism directed by the deputies toward the government.
