Moroccan Journalists Union says more openness is needed
Morocco, Politics, 5/4/1999
The Union of Moroccan Journalists (UJM) drew on Monday the attention of all concerned parties to the "seriousness" of the situation in the media field in Morocco.
In a statement released on the occasion of the world press freedom day marked on May 3, the union said the exercise of public freedom requires conditions that are still lacking in Morocco.
It cited, in particular, the situation of the state-owned media which are not sufficiently open for all the components of the political and civil society. The union also deplored the existence of social, professional and training obstacles to creativity and the exercise of genuine freedom.
The Union renewed resolve to endeavor with all professionals to support the principle of freedom at all levels in order to ensure a better future for the Moroccan press and journalists.
