New party to be formed in Algeria, statement on liberties
Algeria, Politics, 5/4/1999
Former Algerian Prime Minister Mawloud Hamroush, who is also one of the six candidates who withdrew from last month's Algerian presidential elections, is expected to form a new party within the next two weeks under his chairmanship.
In a statement released in Algiers on Monday, Hamroush announced that the new party will be established in response to the ambitions of the people of Algeria who had responded to his "electoral program," he proposed throughout the presidential campaign.
Hamroush added that "freedom for the change and the change by freedom are the two main banners which will constitute the grounds for the political efforts he will carry out to establish democracy and rejection of de facto."
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the opposition Socialists Forces Front in Algeria, Samir Abu Akowir, announced that the group of the six people who withdrew from the presidential elections recently will endorse a statement on liberties at the end of next week.
Abu Aokwer said the endorsement of this statement was delayed because Taleb El-Ibrahiam and Hussein Ayett Ahmed are abroad.
