Israel continues strikes against south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 5/3/1999
Israeli occupation forces on Sunday afternoon attacked several towns and villages in the hills of al-Tuffah district and in the western sector of south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said Israeli artillery shelled the woods of Jabal al-Rafee, Sujoud and al-Rayhan, the areas of the Litani and al-Tasse rivers and Habboush bridge which links al-Tuffah district to the occupied part of south Lebanon.
Lebanese security sources added that the Israeli artillery also bombarded the towns of Majdal Zoun, al-Mansouri, Zibqin al-Butoum and al-Qeseyeh.
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation forces continued to close crossings between the occupied areas and the areas liberated since Lebanese national forces attacked the motorcade of the Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army militia leader of Contingent 20, Joseph Karam.
The Israeli occupation troops have been trying to end the state of dismemberment the militia undergoes due to operations carried out by Lebanese resistance forces.
In retaliation, the Lebanese resistance on Sunday attacked two positions of the Israeli occupation forces in the occupied part of south Lebanon. Lebanese resistance sources said two resistance groups attacked occupation positions in Teir Harfa and Balat. The sources said the two attacks resulted in direct hits on the two positions' fortifications.
Moreover, the Lebanese resistance on Sunday attacked the Israeli occupation position in al-Hardoun. Direct hits were also achieved.
Another resistance group on Sunday attacked an engineering unit of the pro-Israeli SLA militia that was carrying out fortifications at Sujoud position, preventing work from being carried out.
