French premier in Egypt today
Egypt-France, Politics, 5/1/1999

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa has stated that his talks with his French counterpart, Hubert Vedrine, who will visit Egypt today as part of a delegation headed by Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, will center on the Middle East peace process.

In a statement to reporters in Cairo on Friday, Moussa said coordination will continue between Egypt and France concerning the Middle East peace process and several issues between the two countries. He added that these topics will also be on top of the agenda of the talks to be held today by Jospin.

Jospin starts today an official visit to Egypt at the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart, Kamal El-Ganzouri.

Spokeswoman for the French Foreign Ministry Anne Gazeau-Secret said that Jospin's talks during his two-day visit to Egypt will deal with issues of mutual concern, especially the situation in the Middle East, especially the Middle East peace process, the question of Kosovo and bilateral relations.

The spokeswoman added that Jospin will inaugurate during his visit, the first for a French prime minister to Egypt since 1992, France Expo '99, which is the largest French trade exposition held in the Middle East as some 215 French companies are taking part.

During Jospin's visit to Egypt, several contracts will be signed relating to France's participation in the Toshka project and foodstuff aid.

The French spokeswoman added that the visit of the French premier to Egypt will evidence the exceptional nature of relations between Egypt and France.

Jospin is accompanied by Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine as well as other two Cabinet ministers.
