Illegal immigration problems debated in Rabat
Morocco-International, Politics, 4/30/1999

Several Moroccan and European experts are currently meeting in Rabat to debate problems related to illegal immigration.

The encounter -- themed "Illegal Immigration, Stakes and Perspectives" -- is meant to be a forum for the exchange of views on a universal phenomenon, that has reached an alarming extent in the Mediterranean basin, Morocco's social protection secretary of state, Said Saadi, told the meeting.

He underlined that the settlement of the issue goes necessarily through the socioeconomic development of the south Mediterranean countries.

The meeting is sponsored by the Moroccan Association on Migration Studies and Research (AMERM), set up by a group of university professors to promote research on migration flows.
