One Israeli soldier wounded in south Lebanon

An Israeli security source said on Thursday that one Israeli soldier was wounded in his leg during a confrontation that erupted near a military site on the border of the area occupied by Israel in south Lebanon.

The source said the confrontation took place near al-Shaqeif castle and the town of Arnoun. During the confrontation the nearby Israeli edifice underwent shelling and the soldier was admitted to a nearby hospital, but his condition was not critical.

Meanwhile, Lebanese President Emile Lahoud continued his efforts on Thursday to prevent Israeli air, land and sea attacks and the escalation mounted by the chief of the Israeli military intelligence to strike the "Lebanese depths" if the Lebanese government "will continue its backing to the Lebanese resistance."

During his meeting on Thursday with several Lebanese parliamentarians, the Lebanese president stressed "awareness to withstand new developments from the Israeli side." The Lebanese president added that the government follows up closely necessary measures to deter the Israeli aggressions and attacks on Lebanese civilians and the losses in property.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese resistance on Thursday attacked an Israeli engineering force in al-Debshe position which was constructing fortifications at the position. The Lebanese resistance also attacked joint military moves of Israeli and Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army militia forces in Sujoud position, using rockets.

In the same context, one security official in the pro-Israeli militia was wounded on Thursday in an attack carried out by the Lebanese resistance near the town of Jezzine to the east of Sidon. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said one of its groups detonated an explosive in the car of militia official Nabil Azouri on the Azour - al-Humseyeh road in Jezzine area, and the detonation resulted in wounding him.

On Thursday afternoon, the Israeli occupation forces bombarded from its positions in Jezzine town in the occupied part of south Lebanon several villages east the city of Sidon. The Israeli bombardment, which coincided with heavy machine gun fire, resulted in several fires in the woods of the targeted region.

Moreover, four Israeli soldiers were seriously wounded near Marhyoun in the occupied part of south Lebanon. Israel Radio said the four soldiers were wounded in a car accident in the area.
