El-Baz: We don't seek to possess nuclear weapons

The Egyptian president's political advisor, Osama El-Baz, stated that there is no contradiction between the interests of Egypt and any other country in the world, except with Israel.

In a lecture on the trends of Egyptian foreign policy in the 21st century at the Sadat Academy for Administrative Sciences, El- Baz said Egypt is trying as much as possible to define the areas of agreements and conflicts and their effects on defining Egyptian policy in the coming century.

He also stated that Egypt does not seeks to possess the nuclear weapon as Israel has done for four reasons: when Egypt upgrades to nuclear weapons, that will give Israel justification for keeping its nuclear weapon, the high cost of possessing these weapons, the danger these weapons could constitute for future development in Egypt, putting it among the regions that provoke anxiety for world powers..

Concerning Egyptian - Sudanese relations, El-Baz said Egypt is not concerned of Nile basin's countries either in Sudan or other countries. He also said that it is in Egypt's interest to contribute to building dams on the Nile because there is no contradiction between Egyptian and Ethiopian interests.

El-Baz also said it's the right of Palestinians to proclaim their state at the time that best conforms with their national interests.

Concerning the recent developments of situation in Iraq, El-Baz said that they should examine the inspection efforts that proved to be useless in past years.
