Morocco making significant efforts to end ethnic cleansing against Kosovars
Morocco, Politics, 4/29/1999

The Moroccan minister in charge of Maghreban and Arab world affairs, Abdeslam Znined, said Wednesday Morocco is making significant efforts within the international community and the contact group of the Organization of the Islamic Conference to end the ethnic cleansing of Kosovars.

The minister said during the weekly question-time at the house of representatives (lower chamber of the parliament) that Morocco contributed to the adoption this April 7 by the OIC contact group of a declaration calling for contacts with the Security Council, the NATO and Russia to restore peace in the region, ensure to refugees the right to return to their homeland and sue war criminals in the international criminal court.

Znined went on that Morocco's efforts in Kosovo are part of the country's support to all Arab, Islamic and humanitarian causes.

On Tuesday, the Moroccan government announced plans to send a humanitarian aid, including physicians, medicine and food to victims of the tragic events in Kosovo, particularly refugees.

Early this month, the Moroccan government denounced the "ethnic cleansing" policy practiced by the Serbs against civilians in Kosovo and voiced support to the efforts made by international organizations to enable the Kosovar people live "in security" and enjoy their rights over their territory.
