Jibran award for UNESCO's director

UNESCO's director general, Frederico Mayor, has received the Jibran Khalil Jibran award for peace offered to him by the Arab-US institute in Washington in appreciation for his efforts. A statement issued by the UNESCO in Paris on Wednesday praised the performance made by Mayor in reactivating the organization's activities during his 11-year span as chief of UNESCO.
The statement also praised Mayor's UN declaration of the year 2000 as an international year for peace cultures and his initiatives aimed at building peace.
