New Israeli city in the West Bank?
Israel, Politics, 4/28/1999
The Israeli daily Maariv reported on Tuesday that Israel is planning to convert one of the West Bank settlements into a real city inhabited by extremist Jews.
The Israeli paper added that the Israeli Housing Ministry secretly embarked on constructing a new Israeli colony in the West Bank so as to expand the Afrin settlement. News reports said the Israeli ministry is planning to build about 8,000 settlement units for the Israeli settlers.
Meanwhile, the director of the Israeli settlements in the West Bank, Ahron Dom, has also disclosed the new settlement plan which was designed to bring in thousands of Jews from different parts of the world to absorb them into settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Israeli army radio quoted Dom as saying that the new settlement campaign, which is being carried out in full coordination between Dom and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, aims at increasing the number of Israeli voters who may cast votes in favor of the Israeli right wing parties, led by Netanyahu.
