Jordan, Military, 4/28/1999

Chief of staff of the Jordanian armed forces, Lt. Gen. Abdul Hafez Miri al-Kabena, has announced that his country will carry out joint maneuvers and military training with Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen.

He noted that the maneuvers will be held in the Jordanian territories and those of the participating states.

Al-Kabena stated while talking to journalists on Monday upon the delivery process of the Jordanian armed forces of US equipment to combat land mines that no date has been fixed for the maneuvers.

The ceremony held for this purpose was held in al-Baqoura district, which Jordan restored from Israel following the signing of the Jordanian- Israeli peace treaty. It was attended by the US ambassador in Amman.

Al-Kabena announced that joint training programs will be undertaken with the US, Britain and France.

Jordan receives annual US aid estimated at US $100 million.
