Report: PKK suffers internal friction
Regional, Politics, 4/28/1999

The Turkish Daily News reported that the military wing of the Kurdistani Workers Party (PKK) has taken a tough stand toward the party's branch in Europe, holding it responsible for the arrest of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The paper added that the PKK military wing has escalated its criticism of the PKK branch in Europe and executed or jailed several PKK members who are linked to the European branch.

The paper continued that the PKK branch in Europe has suspended financial aid to the military wing, a matter which brought the military wing into financial problems.

As a result, the brother of Abdullah Ocalan, Saeed Ocalan, was obliged to ask the PKK branches in other non-European states to intensify their efforts to increase financial funding.

Ocalan also asked for the support of the chairman of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Jalal Talibani, who reacted negatively in this respect.
