Report: Mujahidin Khalq movement denies helping Iraqi security
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 4/28/1999
AFP reported that the Mujahidin Khalq movement, the main armed Iranian opposition group, which is headquartered in Iraq, denied on Tuesday its participation in an Iraqi security system to confront the Shiite demonstrations on the occasion of Ashoura (the tenth day in the Hijra calendar month of Muharram, which marks the killing of Imam al-Hussein Bin Ali), an occasion celebrated by the Shiites.
In a statement of which the AFP received a copy at its office in Nicosia, the movement said the source of such information is the Iranian regime, "which used this rumor as its best means of countering the escalated resistance that it can withstand." The Mujahidin Khalq movement described these reports as "silly and ridiculous."
