Morocco to equip cabs with anti-pollution devices
Morocco, Environment, 4/27/1999
Morocco will launch next June a pilot experience consisting of equipping urban cabs in Rabat and Casablanca with anti-pollution devices.
Moroccan Secretary of State for Environment Ahmed Iraqi said on Monday that the move comes to enforce a decree regulating the vehicles' gas emissions adopted in March 1998. This initiative is meant to fight air pollution in cities.
The official encouraged consumers to buy environment-friendly cars that are less harmful to the environment, less noisy and less expensive.
The experience will be initially carried out in cabs and will be later on extended to buses and other air-polluting vehicles and facilities.
