Libya-Egypt, Politics, 4/27/1999

Libyan leader Colonel Moammar Gaddafi received yesterday a delegation from the Sudanese opposition under the chairmanship of Sadeq El-Mahdi, the leader of Ummah Party, who is currently visiting Tripoli.

Gaddafi agreed to meet with the opposition delegation in light of the endeavors exerted by the Libyan leadership to achieve a national reconciliation in Sudan between the government and the opposition.

On the other hand, Arab diplomatic sources in Cairo revealed that there are Egyptian - Libyan contacts to agree upon the two countries' cooperation in preparation for convening an expanded conference in Libya during the coming month, to achieve Sudanese reconciliation.

The conference aims at convincing the Sudanese government and the leaders of the Democratic National Alliance to overcome disputes and endorse a final reconciliation treaty.
