Tunisia, Economics, 4/27/1999
The Tunisian foreign investment agency has released a new book under the title, "Tunisia: the country of a promising economy." The book includes information about the general characteristics of the Tunisian economy, market, human resources, the infrastructure and a briefing on encouraging investment means in the country and direct foreign investment.
The law on encouraging investment, put into actual implementation in the country at the beginning of 1994, ensures the freedom of investment in most sectors. This law covers all sectors except mining, energy, the financial sector and internal trade, which are all activities subjected to special laws. The law provides several financial privileges.
Tunisia has joined several international agreements and signed bilateral treaties with several countries. It signed the UN Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD), concerning protection of innovations and registered relations.
Tunisia is, moreover, a member of the international organization for intellectual property and also a member of the international center for settling disputes pertaining to investments.
