UAE to finance airport for humanitarian aid in Albania

The United Arab Emirates daily al-Itihad said on Monday that the UAE will finance the erection of an airport in Kokis in northern Albania, dedicated to facilitating delivery of humanitarian aid to Kosovar refugees.
The paper added that a UAE official delegation signed on Sunday a contract with an Albanian company to carry out construction work on the airport. The first phase of the building works, which will cover the runway and an area for landing of the planes on an area of 40,000 square meters, will be completed within 10 days.
Chairman of the UAE delegation, Fares al-Mazroui, said that construction work in the airport will facilitate receiving some 150 tonnes of aid per day. He added that the UAE air force will be the manager of the airport in the first phase, then it will be administrated under the umbrella of the Albanian government.
The UAE has sent several planes to Albania carrying humanitarian aid. It also established a camp for receiving refugees as two helicopters from the UAE stationed in Tirana are working to deliver relief stuffs to various areas of Albania.
