Iraqi - Yugoslavia approach
Iraq-Yugoslavia, Politics, 4/26/1999

Iraq and Yugoslavia decided to raising the level of diplomatic representation between them to the ministers level soon.

Anas Carabo Khitsh, the Yugoslavia charge d'affairs in Baghdad, described this step as a part of the Iraqi stance supporting Yugoslavia against the military operations launched by the US and NATO.

The Yugoslav diplomat described the Iraqi position of being among the clearest supporting Yugoslavia.

Meanwhile, Iraqi newspapers resumed their campaign against air raids by NATO aircraft on vital targets in Yugoslavia, saying that the goal of these military operations is war and not protecting Kosovo's Muslims as NATO has said.

Al-Thawra newspaper, which speaks for the ruling Baath party in Iraq, said that, "Yugoslavia is the target in the air campaign which does not follow U.S.A and does not consider belong to N.A.T.O." The paper said the issue is political and not moral, and they want to divide Yugoslavia into as small of and geographical units as possible.
