Damascus hosts international conference for information technology

The Syrian scientific association for information is regulating the second Sham international conference today and for five days, under the title "Data techniques and future challenges in the developing countries, needs and priorities" in Damascus under the auspices of Syrian President Hafez al-Assad.

The conference aims at study and analysis of the needs and priorities to help the developing countries enter the data age and determine the economic and social needs of these countries.

Ministers and heads of regional and national organizations, leaders in trade and industry fields, a group of specialists, experts, engineers, social and economic scientists, business managers, university professors, researchers in data fields will participate in the conference.

On the conference's sidelines, the association is organizing a regional symposium under the title "Work in data society in 21st century" to show the consequences on economic and human development in the Arab area and the skills required in the local and international labor markets.

This comes at a time when Syria is exerting all required efforts to make informatics accessible to population and would do the best to follow up International information progress, a senior Syrian official Monday said. Assistant Regional Secretary of the Ba'ath Party Sulyman Qaddah said at the opening of the second conference for information "As- Sham 99" the Syrian Society for Information was working to make the science of information accessible to our people's sons. It is to contribute and build our country, he said, adding "This qualitative meeting is an evident proof of the keenness and willingness to make information at the top of future requirements for developing countries," said Qaddah.

President of the Syrian Society for Information Dr. Bashar Al-Assad called in his word to make information "a social habit and tradition." "Following the accelerated progress for information international booming and its effects, we are requested not to adopt the watch- and- see attitude but rather we have to make a quick movement as to continue the march of information and bring from it our needs he added.
