25 offers to buy Egyptian internal trade companies
Egypt, Business, 4/26/1999

The Egyptian Ministry of Public Enterprises received 25 offers to buy internal trade companies, including offers from Egyptian businessmen Ahmed Arafa, Ahmed Baghdad, and Mahmoud El-Arabia.

An official source in the ministry said that floating up these companies for sale according to the Egyptian privatization system is available to Arab and foreign investors as it is to Egyptians.

The sources denied the facts of reports that the sale of these companies would be confined to Egyptians only. The sources added that the ministry is still searching for a suitable means for these companies' privatization, and whether this will be through rent or sale in the form of groups or shares through financial market so no monopoly could be created through these companies, which own 395 branches scattered all over Egypt.
