Algeria-Morocco-OAU, Politics, 4/26/1999
Algeria will host the summit of the OAU (Organization of African Unity) in coming July, which will be opened by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and the African leaders, while the Moroccan monarch will not attend due to Morocco having left the organization.
The summit will discuss upgrading of the work mechanisms of the organization to take part achieving economic reforms in Africa, in light of peace, stability, liberty and legitimacy.
The summit is expected to discuss a plan that will be presented by Senegalese President Abdou Diouf and supported by several African leaders to suspend the membership of the Saharan republic in the organization.
Meanwhile, Morocco directed a call to the leaders of Polisario (the organization working for the establishment of an independent Western Saharan state) to return to Morocco, calling them to resolve the issue of human rights finally.
Moroccan Minister of Interior Driss Basri stated that Morocco's doors are open before the Polisario's leaders.
