France resumes relations with Libya and is given first priority
Libya-France, Politics, 4/26/1999
Libyan sources confirmed today that France began to resume its relations with Libya after the handing over of two Libyan suspects in the Lockerbie bombing, as French companies began to send officials to Libya to agree on the reconstruction of Libya.
The Libyan sources told ArabicNews.com that France and Italy are the two countries sharing petroleum and construction contracts, as there is no place for US or British companies, adding that neither the Libyan people nor companies will forgive what was done by the US and Britain during the sanctions.
The sources added that Libya is ready to normalize its relations with all countries of the word, especially France, which did not pull its ambassador from Libya during the crisis.
France has conducted a trial in absentia for the six Libyan suspects in the bombing of a French UTA plane over Niger and issued life prison sentences against them, followed by civil judgments committing Libya to pay compensation for the incident.
