Jordan: relations with Syria will be much stronger than before
Jordan-Syria, Politics, 4/26/1999
The Jordanian ambassador in Damascus, Nasouh al-Majali, said King Abdullah's visit to Syria started a detente whose doors were opened by President Hafez al-Assad in the first minutes of the king's reception at Damascus International Airport, when Jordanian Prime Minister Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh, who began immediately to debate the water shortage issue and President al-Assad replied, saying: "We will not allow our Jordanian brothers to be thirsty."
Therefore, al-Majali said, the detente and optimistic signs were evident from the first minutes of the visit.
Al-Majali added in an article issued by the Jordanian daily al-Rai on Sunday that the march between the two countries will be much stronger than any times before.
The Jordanian ambassador said the two delegations were inspired by the spirit disseminated by al-Rawabdeh in the sessions of bilateral talks and met with great welcome by President Hafez al-Assad.
